What to Wear Throughout the Year

East Africa enjoys pleasant temperatures year-round, but weather conditions can vary considerably depending on altitude, location, and season. Early mornings and evenings are often cool, while midday temperatures can be warm to hot. The key to comfortable safari travel is dressing in layers.

Recommended Colours

For wildlife viewing and comfort, wear neutral safari colours:

• Khaki
• Beige
• Olive green
• Light brown
• Grey

Avoid:

• Bright colours that may attract insects or distract wildlife
• Camouflage clothing (restricted in several East African countries)
• Dark blue and black in areas where tsetse flies may be present

Availability and turnaround times may vary by property, and some camps may charge a nominal fee for this service. Please note that for cultural reasons, some lodges and camps may not wash undergarments, but hand-washing facilities are usually provided in guest rooms or tents.
