Hiking Mt.Kenya

Mount Kenya is Africa’s second highest mountain at 5,199m (17,058 feet) and the highest of all Kenya Mountains.Mount Kenya is roughly circular, about 60km across at the 200mm contour, where the steep font hills rise out of the gentler slopes of the centered highlands. At the centre of the massif, the main peaks rise sharply from around 4,500m to the main summit of Batian 5,199m, Nelion 5,188m and point Lenana 4,985m.Other major summits on the mountain include Point Piggott 4,957m, Point Dutton 4,885 and Point John 4,883m.Of the three main peaks (Batian, Lenana and Nelion), only point Lenana can be reached by trekkers and the other two being only for technical climbers.

Timau Route

Royal Trek Camping Safari

This expedition is designed for those who have an adventurous spirit & would like to explore the less trodden paths of the mountain. This will give you an unparallel experience of the mountain with a tincture of exclusiveness as you will avoid the crowded paths of the mountain.

The trek is christened “Royal Trek” as Prince William actually engaged Kate Middleton at Rutundu Camp. During our trek, we shall actually camp within the banks of lake Rutundu.

This kind of itinerary will even give you the opportunity to engage in fishing & even miniature golf up the mountain.

This is a mixture of adventure and a touch of class.

Day 1: Nairobi – Marania Camp/ Allan Campsite.

You will  be picked at 6 am for a road transfer to Timau.You will stop at Nanyuki town for lunch on your way to Timau.

The first night shall be spent at Allan Campsite. This shall be an easy day as you will spend acclamitising at the camp

Day 2: Allan Camp to Rutundu Camp.

Your day shall start at 7.30 Am where you will trek from Allan Camp to Rutundu campsite. WE shall spend the day fishing at Lake Rutundu.

Day 3: Rutundu Campsite – Lake Elis.

After breakfast, you will trek to Lake Elis Campsite where you will be accommodated for the night.

Day 4: Lake Elis – Mintos Campsite

After breakfast you will trek to Mintos campsite where you will camp for the day.

Day 5: Mintos Campsite – Lake Michelson – Mintos Camp site.

You will spend this day acclamistisng within Mintos campsite & you will have time to visit Lake Michelson where you will engage in fishing. You will latter head back to Mintos Campsite where you will be accommodated for the night.

Day 6: MIntos – Pt Lenana ( 4,985 M )- Meru Banda’s

Your day shall start at 3 am for an attempt to Point Lenana, our aim shall be to be at Point Lenana by Sunrise (6.30 Am). We shall trek to Meru Bandas,where  you will be accommodated for the night. You will have an opportunity to visit “Nithi Falls”. For this night you will be accommodated at the Meru bandas where you will have a hot shower & some Log fire

Day 7: Meru Bandas – Nairobi

After breakfast, you will trek the first 10 Km out of the park, where you will be picked by Landover’s for the rest of the 22 Km drive out of the park. At Chogoria town we shall have lunch & latter be transferred back to Nairobi.

Route

Sirimon to Chogoria

This expedition is designed for those who have an adventurous spirit & would like to explore the less trodden paths of the mountain. This will give you an unparallel experience of the mountain with a tincture of exclusiveness as you will avoid the crowded paths of the mountain.

Day 1: Depart Nairobi at 08H30 and drive to Mount Kenya area via Nanyuki town. After picking up the porters and your guide proceed to Sirimon gate on the North West of the mountain. Picnic lunch will be provided and there after make a 3 hours walk to Old Moses Hut 3300m for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Early morning breakfast and there after start the walk to Shipton’s camp. The walk takes 6-7 hours with a scenic view of the peak Nelion and Batian through Mackinder’s Valley. Arrive Shipton’s camp 4200m in the early afternoon for a short rest followed by dinner and overnight. Picnic lunch will be served enroute.

Day 3: Proceed to American Camp 4250m via Hausberg Col. for camping [6 hours]

Day 4: Pre-dawn attempt Pt. Lenana 4985m and descend to Mintos/Hall tarn area 4300m for overnight in tents [6 hours]

Day 5:  Descend to Chogoria Park gate 3000m for overnight in Meru Mount Kenya Bandas.

Day 6: Descend via the forest and connect with the vehicle to transfer you back to Nairobi.

Route Kamweti

Pure Adrenalin Camping Safari

This expedition is designed for those who have an adventurous spirit & would like to explore the less trodden paths of the mountain. This will give you an unparallel experience of the mountain with a tincture of exclusiveness as you will avoid the crowded paths of the mountain.

This kind of itinerary will even give you the opportunity to engage in fishing & even miniature golf up the mountain.

This is a mixture of adventure and a touch of class.

Day 1: Nairobi – Forest Lodge.

You will  be picked at 6 am for a road transfer to Kirinyaga where you will be accommodated at the Forest Lodge. Upon arrival, you will have time to Unpack & have lunch. The afternoon will be spent hiking in the forest trails near Forest Lodge.

Day 2: Forest Lodge to Kamweti Camp.

Your day shall start at 7.30 Am where you will trek from Forest Lodge to Kamweti campsite.

Day 3: Kamweti Campsite – Sagana Camp.

Your day shall start at 7.30 Am & you will trek to Sagana Camp

Day 4: Sagana Camp – Thigu Camp.

This day you will trek & camp at the banks of River thigu

Day 5: Thigu Campsite – Hornel Camp

You will trek from Thigu Camp to Horenl where you will have an opportunity to fish

Day 6: Hornel Camp – American Camp

You will trek from Hornell Camp to American Campsite where you will spend the night. At this moment all the major peaks will be very visible.

Day 7: American Camp – Pt Lenana (4,985 M) - Lake Michelson

Your day shall start at 3 am for an attempt to Point Lenana, our aim shall be to be at Point Lenana by Sunrise (6.30 Am). We shall latter descend to Lake Michelson where we shall have breakfast & spend the rest of the day fishing at the lake & playing some miniature Golf.

Day 8: Lake Michelson – Lake Ellis.

We shall trek to Lake Ellis & explore more of the Mt Kenya Lakes & their delicate ecosystem. We shall camp at Lake Ellis for the night.

Day 9: Lake Ellis – Meru Bandas – Nairobi

We shall trek to Meru Bandas,where  you will be accommodated for the night. You will have an opportunity to visit “Nithi Falls”. For this night you will be accommodated at the Meru bandas where you will have a hot shower & some Log fire

Day 10: Meru Bandas – Nairobi

After breakfast, you will trek the first 10 Km out of the park, where you will be picked by Landover’s for the rest of the 22 Km drive out of the park. At Chogoria town we shall have lunch & latter be transferred back to Nairobi.
